This ceremony was born as a result of my deep desire to acknowledge the huge change that I had gone through from making the transition from Woman to Mother through the process of childbirth A process that changed me physically, mentally, psychologically and spiritually. Many indigenous cultures recognise the enormity of this transition for a woman and celebrate it with ceremony and cultural rituals. I started offering the ceremony to other women who felt that same need – either to do it individually or together as group.
Women have found it to be incredibly helpful in normalising their often bewildering experience of childbirth and the demands of new motherhood. They feel ‘seen’ for their new change in status and responsibility in becoming a mother in our society. Time taken for the ceremony depends on whether it is solo or in a group.
